Since president Muhammadu Buhari gave assent to the Amendment electoral act a few days ago, not many Nigerians understand the content of the said affected sections.

The National Assembly embarked on a mission to address or at least clarify some clauses and possibly add more to strengthen the nation’s electoral process.

This move by the legislative arm of government that started in Buharis first tenure during the reign of Bukola Saraki as senate President met several odds at the president’s table as he blatantly refused to sign it into law .

Though the president has signed this amended bill into law, it was not without set backs; he clearly explained his discomfort with some clauses. Of course the national assembly granted his wish by expunging the correction and successfully disappointed the electorate who had wished for the amendment.

While the citizens rejoice over the corrected Act, it is pertinent they also understand some of the key areas that were amended.

One of such amendments include power for the electoral body to determine how to transmit election results – whether electronically or manually. The inclusion of persons with disabilities in the voting process. Power to review election results declared under duress. Neutrality of INEC officials, early conduct of primaries, extension of campaign period from 90 days to 150 days among others.

Here are the top 10 provisions in the 2022 electoral bill.
