Nigeria Immigration service withdraws two erring staff from MMI airport, Lagos over official misconduct

The Nigeria Immigration Service has approved the immediate removal of two operatives from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command for offences bothering on professional conduct.

The acting Comptroller General of the Immigration service, Idris Isah gave the approval in response to an allegation made by a twitter user on the 19th February 2022 that her 14-year old daughter who was travelling out of the country was extorted of some sums of money at the Lagos Airport by the said officials.

The Service got the report and through its Twitter Handle contacted the woman and assured her that the matter would be investigated.

Consequently, the acting Comptroller General ordered a full investigation into the matter including a thorough check on the CCTV facility at the airport.After diligent investigation by the committee headed by the Lagos Airport Comptroller of Immigration, CIS KN Nandap, two personnel who attended to the passenger were found culpable of unprofessional conduct in the handling of the clearance process of the passenger.

A statement by the spokesman of the NIS, Amos Okpu said the duo have been withdrawn from the airport and all former privileges as operatives at the airport stripped of them.

It further said they are currently undergoing necessary disciplinary procedures in line with the directives of the acting Comptroller General.

Meanwhile the acting Comptroller General has stressed his administration’s zero tolerance for all forms of misconducts and enjoined members of the public to feel free to report all noticed instances of bad conducts by any staff of the service for necessary actions.
