Women empowerment: Abia governor’s wife, Realwarripikin empower market women

Wife of Abia State Governor, Priscilla Otti has commended the empowerment initiative organised by Comedienne Anita Asuoha popularly known as Realwarripikin saying it aligns with the government’s policy.

Realwarripikin in collaboration with Mrs Otti empowered fifty petty traders across Abia state at the government house in Umuahia.

During the event which took place at the banquet hall of government house, the wife of the governor enjoined other people with the wherewithal to reach out to the not so privileged persons in the society as “government cannot do it alone.”

She said the state government had carried out series of empowerment programmes in the state for the vulnerable group to ease their burden.

Mrs. Otti urged the women to utilise the money well being the lucky ones.

On her part, Anita Asuoha, AKA Realwarripikin said her foundation always carried out charity work annually empowering women who already were doing business.

She told journalists during an interview that she vowed to uplift people having come from a place of lack, saying “I know what it feels like not to have help, so I promised myself that I must pay people’s school fees someday, lift people up not because I have but because of my generous heart.”

The founder of Realwarripikin foundation called on other well spirited Nigerians to help bridge the gap of poverty by giving to the needy.

According to her, she had done five states before Abia her husband’s state but increased the number of beneficiaries this time due to the support the wife of Abia governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti gave her.

She said it is also a way of marking international women’s day.

Answering questions from newsmen, Mr. Ikechukwu Asuoha, spouse of the comedienne and philanthropist said “charity begins at home,” hence the decision to bring the empowerment home so that “our women will also be part of it.”

One of the beneficiaries, Ijeoma Ogbonna thanked their benefactors for their support in the business they do and prayed for God’s blessings upon their lives.

While Mrs. Asuoha contributed N3,000,000 , Mrs. Otti donated N2,000,000 to make it possible for each woman to receive N100,000 each.
