The African Democratic party in Abia state has suspended Mr. Don Norman Obinna from his position as the party chairman in the state. His suspension came on the heels of reports of alleged high handedness, violation of party’s rules and guidelines among others. In his stead, Mazi Okoroafor Many has been appointed to serve in the interim. These decisions were made known during the party’s harmonisation meeting on Friday at the Nobik international event centre, Aba with all factions and interests of the party represented .Addressing press, the Interim Chairman of the Party, Mazi Okoroafor Kanu, said that the party took the decision to suspend Mr Don Norman for series of party principles which he abused.“I was formerly his deputy, he ran the party like his personal affairs, he doesn’t recognize anybody in the party, both the committee and the executive. We had two Siennas which he has sold. Even when we have meetings, he will talk and take decisions without listening to the opinions of anybody.“The party looked into it and said ‘enough is enough.’ The party does not belong to Don Norman. When the petition was written and submitted to the Party, we looked into it and suspended him with a motion.“The party is now open to anybody in the state. We can now allow new members to come in which was contrary to what we had in the past. “Before, you might be speaking and Don Norman will say he has suspended you. A lot of things went wrong,” he said.He revealed that a disciplinary committee was set up to investigate the petition levelled against the former Chairman while he the deputy Chairman Mazi Kanu was selected to chair it .He said that Mr Don Norman Obinna had been invited to appear before the committee for further investigation.”Addressing the state party stakeholders with the likes of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe , Etigwe Uwa, SAN, Uwaoma Olewengwa, Barrister Kalu Kalu Agu (Zonal Legal Adviser) and Prof Onyi Nwagbara Mr. Nkem Ukandu, ADC National Welfare Secretary called for greater mobilization at the grassroots for the party.
