The gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia state, Bishop Sunday Onuoha has said his desire to become the next governor of the state was borne out of genuine interest in the welfare of the citizens.

Speaking with bloggers recently in Umuahia, the clergy pointed out that he has all it takes to govern Abia state.

He observed that the state had had a business man in Senator Orji Kalu, a technocrat in Senator Theodore Orji and now an academic in Okezie Ikpeazu govern it, but pointed out that it is yet to get a priestly touch especially of one who is equally successful in his business ventures.

Bishop Onuoha analysed Nigeria’s problem to be injustice emanating from uneven distribution of wealth to its federating units.

He assured that dividends of democracy will be equally shared to all the communities in the state as the governor.

On security, the cleric said he would make it his first and most important agendum. He believes that once there is security of lives and property of citizens, every other aspect will naturally fall into place.

According to him, the reason the federal government of President Muhammadu Buhari failed in its fight against insecurity is because it under estimated the problem.

“One does not need to get foreign aid before insecurity can be tackled, as a one time president general of Item, we fought insecurity to a standstill.

“I know what it means to use traditional rulers and religious leaders to protect the land.

“Unfortunately, our announced Ebubeagu by our governors in Enugu is yet to come, we are still praying for it, he said.

He decried the level of insecurity in the state which has impeded people from going to the farms for fear of kidnappers and rapists, and stated that state of emergency should be declared on security because insecurity has no relative. He said, “we are already planting the seeds of hunger when we cannot have our women and daughters go to the farms.”

The gubernatorial hopeful noted that ” in government, you need fast thinkers who can turn around an impending misfortune to success.”

He said there are lots of investments and investors waiting for things to be fixed before they can invest. He said such people are watching to see transparency enthroned and corruption dealt with in order to give room for commitment on their part.

He emphasized the need for the states especially Abia to grow its local economy and not depend solely on the federal allocation, since it does not serve the needs of the state.

The Methodist cleric posited that credible persons cannot continue to shy away from politics because of their belief that it is dirty. He said if that is the case, then the wrong people will take over.

He equally enjoined voters to consider everyone’s antecedents before voting for them in the coming election .

He said to reduce cost of governance, flamboyance and extravagances must be discouraged so that workers may receive their salaries as and when due.

“It is important to always have people who tell you the truth and not praise singers,” he said.
