As gubernatorial candidates intensify their campaigns for the forthcoming elections in Abia state, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Chief Ikechi Emenike says to develop the state, what is needed mostly is to “increase the size of the state’s budget.”

He said the state which started at the same level with some other states, is almost stagnant in terms of budgeting. High Chief Emenike who came up with this during a media parley with bloggers in the state, also said only one with wherewithal can develop the state. He is also of the opinion that whoever wants to develop Abia must adopt a “holistic approach” to the problems of the state. He believes that no one sector should be left to suffer while tackling the state’ many problems.

According to the gubernatorial hopeful, he has the qualifications and exposure needed to develop the state, saying that he stands out among other candidates.

On how he will ensure peace in his party after elections, he said, peace will naturally come once he wins the election, saying he would embrace as many are ready for reconciliation.

Emenike who expressed confidence in his party to be victorious at the polls, said his government will fight corruption to a standstill. He said one way to fight corruption is to make sure the ruling party in the state does not produce the next governor of the state. “The only way to fight corruption is to make sure a PDP man does not replace a PDP man.”

Chief Emenike, while responding to the fracas that broke out between his supporters and those of Orji Uzor Kalu during the party’spresidential campaign in Umuahia recently, he said it was a non issue. He however took a swipe at senator Kalu for allegedly engaging in anti party activity, accusing him of supporting his brother in APP whereas he still remains in APC. “We could have expelled him from the party, but we have allowed him to stay.”

The APC Guber who was flanked by his running mate, Rev. Gloria Nanya Akara, the state party chairman, Kingsley Ononogbu, his campaign director general, Chief Ogboso and Abia commissioner, National Population Commission, Hon. Nwanne Nwabuisi, also enjoined the media to be active participants in the election by not only reporting events but by ensuring they vote on election days.
