Stephanie Clems, Umuahia
One year after the general elections, former speaker of the Abia state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji has spoken about certain issues surrounding his political career.
Addressing members of the Online Media Practitioners’ Association of Nigeria, Abia chapter who called on him at his residence, Hon. Orji said the reason he hadn’t spoken about anything publicly was because of his resolve not to heat up the polity and distract those elected or appointed to serve.
Hon. Orji who was the candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency in the 2023 general election said, “I am not interested in distracting anyone, I will not be a party to any confusion in the state.
“My own is whatever anyone promised to do for the people during political campaigns should sdo that.”
Hon. Orji declared that he was not scared of politics, saying “Because I made a mistake once, does not mean I will again.
“I pity those who pity me because when it is time for politics, I Chinedum Orji will play it.”
He also stated that he was prepared to face any legally constituted panel to render account of his stewardship as a speaker. “If you expect me to speak about the happenings in the state and create problems, you are wasting your time as I can only do so before a constituted commission.”
He thanked the union for the support it gave him while in office as speaker and urged for support of public office holders.
The chairman of the Online media practitioners Association of Nigeria in Abia state, Chief Promise Uzoma Okoro thanked the host for cordial relationship that had existed between him and bloggers from when he was speaker and requested him to continue to keep his doors open to members for clarifications on issues.
National officers of the association were also present at the visit.
