The president of Igbo women Assembly, Lolo Nneka Chimezie has decried alleged extra judicial killings in Anambra state by the local vigilante group – Agu na-eche mba.
The president in a press conference in Umuahia said there was need for the governor if Anambra state to streamline the activities of the security outfit.
“We are not saying that the governor should not fight insecurity in the state, but please arresting people and killing them is wrong .“These are our youth, even if they commit crime, we can arrest them and rehabilitate them just like they do boko haram,” she said.
She expressed concerns that innocent people might be killed by the operatives if not checked , saying young people are being killed in their numbers for crimes they have not been convicted for.
The president said, “I have seen on social media where they will pack over 50 youths in a truck and call them criminals. I hope they will not pack them to go and shoot.“We are very happy, I mean about the cleansing, about trying to fight crime in Anambra state but for any innocent man to die, I mean I don’t know the kind of crime you are fighting.”
She therefore called on governor Chukwuma Soludo to look into their activities and ensure that they hand over suspects to the police
