Anambra insecurity: Joint Security team rescues three kidnap victims as police arrest cultists, armed robbers, recover weapons.

A joint security force in Anambra state on Saturday, March 22, 2025 rescued three kidnap victims along Onitsha/Owerri express road by Ozubulu.

A press statement signed by the state’s police public relations officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that the team had a coordinated operation to secure the release by 7:20am on Saturday.

The victims were subsequently taken to the hospital for medical attention given the various degrees of injury sustained while in the custody of the abductors.

According to the statement, the freed victims are currently responding to treatment and shall subsequently be debriefed by the police.

The operation was successful because different security checkpoints in the state were alerted when the information of their abduction at Nkwelle-Ezunaka in Oyi Local Government was reported for immediate action and possible rescue of victims and arrest of the criminals.

The statement further said that the Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD while charging the operatives to increase their efforts for possible arrest of the criminals assured the people of Anambra state of the Command’s commitment to protection of lives and property and sustained onslaught to continue to deny the criminals the space to commit havoc.

In a related development, men of the special anti cult squad arrested two young men aged 19 and 22 years old in an uncompleted building at Onwurah street over cult related matter.

There had been cases of armed robbery and phone snatching in the popular Abakiliki road which informed the emplacement of new measures by CP Orutugi .

The operatives recovered one pump action gun, sixteen (16) pieces of expended cartridges, a battle axe, and two suspected stolen phones. Subsequently, a victim identified one of the recovered phones and stated that she was robbed on the 13th of March, 2025 at gun point by four armed men along the Club Road.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police operatives have expanded the investigation aimed at arresting other gang member while all the suspects shall be charged to court on the conclusion of investigations
